: NÁCHOD AND ITS SURROUNDINGS
Walking and cycling
The area around Náchod, the so-called Kladské pomezí, has an elaborated network of cycling lanes, among them many that cross the border to Poland. The mild terrain of the landscape makes the area a perfect destination also for trips with smaller kids.
The Castle
The dominant of the town – the Náchod Castle – is standing right above Beránek. It used to be a Gothic building and was renovated under the influence of Baroque and Renaissance styles in the 18th century by the illustrious family Piccolomini. Today, the Náchod Castle offers not only a fascinating historical exhibition including the castle park and a dungeon but also a bear couple in the former defensive ditch. Another noteworthy castle in the region is the one in Nové Město nad Metují, 7 kilometres far from Náchod. Among other things, it has sculptures made by Matyáš Bernard Braun.
The Valley of Ratibořice
A picturesque valley, the setting of the legendary novel The Grandmother by the most famous of regional writers – Božena Němcová. Whether you are fans of Czech literature or not, the countryside and the local chateau of Princess Wilhelmine are bound to enchant you.
Adršpach-Teplice Rocks
Thousands of tourists come to visit the largest set of sandstone formation in Central Europe each year. Whether a professional rock-climber or not you are going to love the area where each rock has its own name according to what it looks like.
Rozkoš
The eighth biggest dam in the Czech Republic is a paradise for surfers, fishermen and all fans of water sports. Local camping sites rent boats and pedal boats.
Peklo
The valley around the confluence of Metuje and Olešenka is a popular outing spot. A cycling lane from Náchod to Nové Město runs through it. The mild terrain of the area makes it a perfect place for you to go on a cycling trip with your kids.

Beautiful landscape with multiple rock views. The area around Broumov also has a large number of unique Baroque chapels that are definitely worth visiting.
Góry Stolowe
Polish national park with rock mazes, beautiful views and an elaborated network of paths and lanes for cyclists, walkers and cross-country skiers.
Border fortification
A line of border fortification runs through the area of Náchod. The fortresses were built in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century as a reaction to the rising threat of Nazi Germany. Several fortresses offer permanent exhibitions of military technology of the time. The largest exhibition is to be found at Dobrošov (from where you can get a beautiful bird’s-eye-view of the town of Náchod), smaller ones then at minor fortresses such as Březinka.
Skiing
You can choose to go skiing to any of the multiple ski centres in Krkonoše or Orlické mountains. Or you can decide to try skiing in Poland, more precisely in Zielenec, a ski centre offering 20 lifts and funiculars – it is only 25 kilometres’ drive from Náchod. Náchod and its surroundings also have numerous cross-country skiing tracks.
